New Leaders Council’s Capstone Project Presentation and Fellowship Graduation

Graduated from the New Leaders Council – New Jersey Fellowship program! Many thanks to the NLC-NJ family for the 6-month political entrepreneurship training, and the progressive network we are building.  I’m happy with the experience, including the requirement to develop and present a Capstone Project.  I chose to pitch the project of  “Hoboken Open Street Sundays” and will start working to make it happen. Stay tuned!

NYC Walk to Defeat ALS – Ronald Bautista

In memory of my dad: Alfredo “Tom” Bautista Dear friends and family,10265641_1130023047011568_4951828382556136676_o Many people may have thought it was dumb, but recording ourselves throwing an ice bucket over our heads was a great example of how together we can do something great! The #ALSicebucketchallege brought more than three million people to collaborate to find a cure to defeat ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). The cause to defeat ALS is not new for me since, in memory of my father, I’ve been participating in fundraising walks with my family for many years. My father, the strongest man I’ve ever known is also the person that inspires me to to bring hope to people living with ALS, and raise money for a cure. Please join me at the walk and make your online donation! With your contribution, The ALS Association can sustain care services and continue to support research for a cure. New York City Walk Saturday | May 02, 2015 WALK CHECK-IN: 9:00 AM WALK STARTS: 10:30 AM LOCATION: Pier 45 | Hudson River Park DISTANCE: 3 miles

Americans not Impressed by Open Government Initiatives

Only 7% of Americans say local governments share their information effectively.  Read More: http://goo.gl/HR1eCx
People love to be listened to, but there are many politicians and institutions that do not use social media the way it was intended to. Residents of a city answer, criticize, support and ask for action through social media. There must be constant interactions, but many times people reach out to their representatives without getting any answers back. Social media is about creating a dialogue and politicians must provide information about what they are doing, but must also help the community with next-steps so they may take action. Give them the tools, inspire them and they will respond. Residents, specially Millennials, are eager to make a difference in their community! A real Open Government must become the trendsetter and the center for action within a community. It is time for government to win that trust and motivate people to take action for common goals.
